Perioperative (Surgical) Nursing

Surgical nurses, also known as medical-surgical nurses, have received specialized training in providing patients with nursing care prior to, during, and following surgery. They are important members of the surgical team of a hospital who support physicians, anesthesiologists, and other medical staff members during surgeries. Working with patients who have a variety of acute and chronic disorders requires surgical nurses to possess a wide range of abilities. The majority of nurses in the United States are medical-surgical nurses, with surgical nursing being the oldest nursing specialty. A surgical nurse answers any questions the patient may have and goes over the procedure's details with them before surgery, including any dangers involved. Following surgery, they oversee the patient's post-operative care, which included managing pain and arranging the patient, as well as careful observation for any indications of difficulties. Patients are cleared for surgery after their medical histories are taken. They execute various medical duties at the surgery site, monitor vital signs, clean the surgical area, and hand instruments to the doctor.
