Geriatrics and Gerontology Nursing

A geriatric nurse is a professional who creates patient care plans and offers practical care to help elderly patients recover from disease or disability. Additionally, they could do examinations and assist with rehabilitation in hospice or skilled care institutions. In addition to helping patients manage pain and provide medication, many specialists in this field are trained to emphasize preventative care, enabling their patients to avoid injuries and common medical diseases that typically manifest later in life.

The study of gerontological nursing offers a chance to examine the difficulties associated with aging via the perspective of transitions. They look into how older persons handle life transitions like health problems, moving, family problems, existential concerns, and death and dying.  As for the physical While health-related concerns are covered, the main focus is on how older persons perceive and cope with life transitions, and how nurses may support their patients, clients, and families during these changes.  We also look at the difficulties experienced by newly developing aging adult subpopulations, including those with HIV/AIDS, those with developmental disabilities, the incarcerated, and the homeless.
