Advanced Practice Nursing Roles

• Advanced practice nursing (APN) roles encompass a range of specialized positions that extend the scope of traditional nursing practice. These roles typically require advanced education, such as a master's or doctoral degree, and clinical training. The four main categories of APNs include nurse practitioners (NPs), clinical nurse specialists (CNSs), nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), and nurse midwives (CNMs).
• Nurse practitioners provide comprehensive care, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions, often serving as primary care providers. Clinical nurse specialists focus on improving patient outcomes through expert consultation, education, and leadership in specific clinical areas.
